The Sunday Catechism Classes for the academic year 2025–2026 were solemnly inaugurated at St. Sebastian Church, Bendur, on Sunday, 1st June 2025, during the 9:15 AM Mass. The inauguration ceremony witnessed the enthusiastic participation of children, parents, catechism teachers, the Vice President and Secretary of the Parish Pastoral Council, and many parishioners.

The Holy Eucharist was presided over by Rev. Fr. Walter D’Souza, Parish Priest and Vicar of St. Sebastian Church. The Mass commenced with a special entrance procession, involving the children, parents, catechism teachers, the VP, Secretary, and the celebrant, symbolizing the parish’s collective responsibility in faith formation.
At the beginning of the Mass, Fr. Walter ceremoniously handed over the Holy Bible and the Catechism Guide to one of the catechism teachers, symbolizing the sacred mission entrusted to them — to guide the children in their journey of faith.

In his homily, Rev. Fr. Walter D’Souza emphasized the importance of catechism in the life of every Catholic child. He said that catechism is not just a class, but a vital ministry that lays the foundation of Christian faith, values, and moral living.
As part of the Platinum Jubilee theme of the diocese – “Borvoso Amka Nirashi Karina” – a symbolic inauguration was held. The Vice President, Secretary, and representatives of parents jointly watered plants, signifying the nurturing of young minds and spirits, just as one nurtures a plant to grow and bear fruit.
During the Mass, Fr. Walter distributed catechism books to the children and invoked a special blessing upon them, praying that they grow in faith, love, and understanding of God’s teachings.
A significant moment followed when the catechism teachers took a solemn oath in front of the congregation, pledging to faithfully impart the teachings of the Church and to be role models of Christian living.
The liturgy of the day was animated by the catechism students, who served as readers, altar servers, and took part in the offertory procession. The vibrant children’s choir added a spiritual and joyful atmosphere to the Mass with their melodious singing.

This meaningful celebration marked the beginning of a new catechetical year filled with enthusiasm, prayer, and a renewed sense of mission. The parish community looks forward to walking this faith journey together, led by the light of Christ.
