





The Monthi Feast, a celebration of the Nativity of Mother Mary, was joyfully celebrated at St. Sebastian Church, Bendur, on 8th September at 6:00 PM in the Platinum Jubilee Hall. The entire parish family came together in great unity and devotion to honor this special feast.
The program began with a grand procession led by the St. Sebastian Brass Band, followed by the dignitaries of the parish including the Parish Vicar Rev Fr Walter Dsouza, Principal Rev. Fr. Arun Lobo, Vice President Mr. Vinod Dsouza, Secretary Mrs. Patsy Britto, all commission convenor Mr. Deepak D’Souza, Convent Superiors Sr. Shubha, Sr. Cynthia, and Sr. Nancy.
After the solemn entry, the Vice President, Mr. Vinod, extended a warm welcome to the gathering. The Vicar then led the blessing of the new corn, symbolizing the blessings of a new harvest. The blessed corn was reverently mixed with Vorné and distributed to all Gurkars, who in turn lovingly shared it with the parishioners, signifying unity and sharing in the parish family.
The celebration also recognized the academic excellence of the youth of the parish. The 22 toppers of SSLC, PUC, and Degree examinations were felicitated and honored for their hard work. In addition, the Fr. Peter Noronha Higher Education Trust Scholarships were awarded to six meritorious students, encouraging them to continue their academic journey with faith and dedication.
In his message, Rev. Fr. Arun highlighted the spiritual significance of the Monthi Fest, reminding everyone of the virtues of Mother Mary and the call to live in unity as one parish family. Adding a special touch to the celebration, the Vicar and Fr. Arun sang a devotional song composed and written by the Vicar himself, which was well received and appreciated by all.
A silent prayer was also conducted for the soul of the former Vicar, Rev. Fr. Vincent Monteiro, remembering his dedicated service to the parish
The cultural program that followed was vibrant and entertaining. The children of the parish presented performances accompanied by the parish Brass Band. Talented singers Lavian, Aldrin, and Shannel captivated the audience with their melodious songs. Dances by YCS and CAL members added energy and color to the evening. The highlight of the cultural segment was the Konkani drama “Amchen Monthi Fest”, beautifully enacted by parishioners, which brought much joy and laughter to the gathering.
The evening concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by the Parish Secretary, Mrs. Patsy Britto, who expressed gratitude to the Parish Clergy, religious sisters, guests, all parish associations, volunteers, and parishioners for their wholehearted support and cooperation in making the Monthi Fest celebration a grand success.
The entire event was compered by Mevis Rodrigues, who conducted the program gracefully and efficiently.
The celebration was truly a testimony to faith, unity, and community spirit, leaving the parish family enriched with joy and blessings.
