16 November 2025
The Sacrament of Confirmation, a significant milestone in the spiritual journey of young Catholics, was
solemnly administered at St. Sebastian Church, Bendur on 16th November 2025 during the 5:00 PM Holy
Mass. A total of 59 children — 36 girls and 23 boys—received the anointing of the Holy Spirit.
The sacrament was conferred by Bishop Emeritus Most Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, who graced the
occasion with his presence and spiritual guidance. The children were meticulously prepared for the sacrament through regular catechism classes conducted by Rev Fr Ozmond Dsouza, Sr. Lourdes and Mrs. Mercene Pereira, whose dedication ensured that the candidates were well-formed in faith and understanding. Prior to the Mass, the Bishop interacted with the confirmands, asking them questions about the teachings of the Church, the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and the responsibilities of a confirmed Catholic. The children responded confidently, reflecting their readiness for the sacrament.
The Holy Mass began at 5:00 PM, with the Bishop as the main celebrant, concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Walter
D’Souza (Parish Priest), Fr. Vivek Pinto, Fr. Ozmond D’Souza, and Fr. Arun Lobo (Principal, Padua College).
In his homily, the Bishop highlighted the significance of the World Day of the Poor, observed on the same
day, reminding the faithful that true Christian living is rooted in compassion and service.
He shared the inspiring example of St. Carlo Acutis, explaining how this young saint used prayer, devotion to the Eucharist, and simple acts of kindness to touch lives. The Bishop encouraged the newly confirmed children to grow in holiness, strengthen their prayer life, and use their talents for the glory of God.
The children then came forward reverently to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation through the sacred
anointing with Chrism. The Godfather and Godmother for the Confirmation group were Mr. Vinod D’Souza (Vice President, PPC) and Mrs. Patsy Britto (Secretary, PPC), who stood as spiritual guides and representatives on behalf of the parish.
After the Mass, students Nathan Mendonca and Salvina Viera Crasta expressed heartfelt words of gratitude to the Bishop, clergy, catechism teachers, parish leaders, parents, and all who supported them in their formation.

Awards were presented to children who secured the highest marks in the Confirmation examinations,
appreciating their sincerity and commitment. Catechism teachers Sr. Lourdes and Mrs. Mercene Pereira
were also honoured by the parish for their tireless service in nurturing the faith of young parishioners.
The celebration concluded with refreshments served to the children and their parents, marking the end of a spiritually enriching and memorable evening. The parish community rejoiced as these 50 young members embraced a deeper commitment to their faith, strengthened by the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
