Mangaluru, June 28, 2026: The Education Commission of St. Sebastian Church, Bendur, successfully organized a career guidance program for students of classes 8, 9, and 10 today at the Church Hall. The event, which saw an enthusiastic turnout of 70 students, was specifically designed to motivate them to begin early preparation for prestigious government competitive examinations, including the UPSC, KPSC, and various defense services.

The program commenced with a warm welcome by Mrs. Irene Sequeira, who also introduced the resource person to the audience.

The session was led by the resource person, Ms. Mural Henrita Cutinha, a distinguished academician and Ph.D. scholar at Yenepoya (Deemed to be University). Drawing from her extensive experience as a former lecturer at St. Agnes Degree College and St. Aloysius PU College, Ms. Cutinha provided students with valuable insights into various career paths. She emphasized the importance of skill-building and research-oriented learning as foundational steps for success.

Recognized by the Government of Karnataka for her commitment to student development through the Prerana Mentorship Program, Ms. Cutinha encouraged the attendees to remain curious and proactive. She offered practical guidance on how to begin preparing for competitive examinations and shared strategies for procuring the necessary study materials. Furthermore, she encouraged students to explore these opportunities, highlighting that qualifying for UPSC examinations opens doors to a wide array of prestigious government positions beyond just the IAS or IPS.

The event was presided over by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Walter D’Souza. The occasion was also graced by Assistant Parish Priests, Rev. Fr. Ozmond D’Souza and Rev. Fr. Joel Monteiro. The event witnessed the presence of several distinguished guests, including Rev. Fr. Arun Lobo, Principal of Padua College; Rev. Fr. Isidore D’Souza; and Brothers Sanjeevan and Victor. Parish Pastoral Council Vice President Mr. Deepak D’Souza, Secretary Mr. Roysten Farias, and Commissions Convenor Mr. Loy Rego were also in attendance to lend their support.

The program was seamlessly compered by Ms. Carol Lobo, ensuring an engaging flow throughout the session. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Rolen Rodrigues, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, the resource person, the volunteers, and the enthusiastic students who made the event a success.
